So...incase you didn't hear: wildfires ripped through Oklahoma City a few nights ago. They were surrounding us...like...less than a mile away. One particular one was about a 1/2 mile from us. We run by that particular neighborhood every week during PT.
What does one do when wild fires are approaching? Well..we were put into "watch" mode and were encouraged to either pack a bag or be considering a plan to pack quickly and head south bound. But, the winds started shifting and eventually settled down enough that the fires didn't get to us. HALLELUJAH!
However, SOOOOOO many homes were lost in the fires. Like...neighborhoods. It is just terrible and so sad.
Talk about living in the twilight zone. We've never been put on "fire watch" before. We were joking at one point the other night saying "if there is a tornado, we hop in the tub and throw a mattress over our head, but we don't have much of a clue when it comes to 'California Wildfires'. This is just WEIRD".
On a happier / more interesting note...
Update on our "ethnic food challenge" this week:
Monday lunch: Liver and onions (mom used to cook that all the time. No big deal for me.)
Monday dinner: ants and fried pig intestine
Tuesday lunch: grubs (these taste like poop) and fermented cabbage (it was pretty much sauerkraut)
Tuesday dinner: Squid and pickled eggplant. (the best meal thus far. YUMMY!!)
Wednesday lunch: GIANT crickets, and an entire fish that was pan fried (Justin almost puked during this meal)
Wednesday dinner: pork uterus, fermented black eggs (a hard boiled black egg with mushy insides), and brussel sprouts (the most DISGUSTING meal thus far)
Thursday lunch: pickled pigs feet, fermented tofu in hot sauce and rice ( Shelli almost puked during this meal )
Thursday dinner: passover meal. HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday lunch: jelly fish, eel and mustard greens. (another good meal...not gross)
Friday diinner: We all went out for dinner at a Mexican place and were officially done with the food challenge. YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!
If "given" the opportunity to eat bugs again, we would take ants. They really weren't that bad.
