"Rocky"...the "Harry" dog, named "Bruce"

As promised, here is a journal entry (one of many to come hopefully) from our trip through northern Kh@m ti.bet...

Day 18-21

Left Batang on the 30th and headed towards Bai yu. Its quite a long journey on really bad bumpy roads, so we stopped half way and camped for two nights in a really beautiful setting near a crystal blue river. It was great.

After the first night, we woke up to a t.ibetan mastiff (aka: REALLY BIG DOG) in our camp. Our natural instinct was a bit fearful, but he started wagging his tail and we soon discovered that he was in extremely sweet and a very instinctive dog.

During dinner one night, Harry (as I called him, but others called him Rocky or Bruce) started charging and barking loudly. We were all a bit startled and jumped to our feet. Just then, Lindsey yells "He's chasing off a bear". Yep...there was a BEAR in our camp (well, about 100 yards from our camp) and the dog was chasing him off. Later that same night, Justin was very sick at his stomach and needed to stick his head out the tent door to "fill in the blank". Just then, he flew back into the tent and yelled "Zip it up, there is something out there". A few seconds later, that "something" was right outside our tent sniffing and grunting. We thought to ourselves "surely its the dog"...but just then, we heard the dog start barking about 20 yards off to the left and he chased off whatever it was outside our tent.

We seriously believed that the Lord directed that dog to us. He was so friendly, he loved and played with the little kids and was a great watch dog.

We headed to Bai yu the next morning and Justin and I just rested, because neither of us got any sleep the night before from him being sick and the "scary beast" incident.

On the morning of the 2nd, we head out to Dege and we'll be there for two days.

Dege is "famous" in T.ibet for its printing mill. They have monks and local artists carve out printing blocks from wood to make their scriptures. Also, Dege supposedly supplies blocks to all T.ibet, so buddhists think its a special "holy place".

I guess we'll see.
